I Get It In: Weekend re-cap

What's the weekend without a little fun? Sometimes you just
have to get it in. I always follow my own advice when I go out. I just love the ease and comfort of a jumpsuit or romper (one-stop shopping) and if the mall isn't really giving you any good options to hit the town in, you can do no wrong with a little creativity and good vintage.

Extra Mild Sauce @ Little Temple on Thursday (ok the weekend started a little early for me). I had to party with my friend CiCi in honor of Michael Jackson. Peep the vintage yellow leather jacket. I think it's rather Michael like.

One Day Without MJ: Worldwide icon Michael Jackson dies at 50

The world was shocked yesterday with the news of Michael Jackson's death. One day later I still can't think of a person more iconic in the world as Michael Jackson. He was such a huge influence in the world of music, fashion and pop culture. I seriously feel like a part of my childhood was ripped from me yesterday. I grew up in awe of Michael Jackson: I had the yellow sweater poster on my wall, memorized the dialogue and dance routines from The Making of Thriller (I hoped and prayed to wake up as Ola Ray just to be near him), and nearly climbed into the television watching him debut the moonwalk on Motown 25 (I guess I should also mention the other poster on my wall of him and E.T. that came with the E.T. record he narrated and the numerous times I saw Captain EO at Disneyland). All I can say is, anyone who knows me knows how much I love Michael Jackson and my first Friday without him feels a little different. I LOVE YOU MICHAEL! Thanks for leaving us so many gifts.

Saturday Night Fever On A Wednesday?

Hey, John Travolta called-he said he wants his suit back. He can have it back right after I steal his Saturday Night Fever style for summer. The white suit is back and hotter than ever! It's the summer's most versatile suit.

right photo:White Blazer $150, 718 Martin Sleek Straight Pant $79, Banana Republic.

  • Wear it to work with a button down for a crisp and professional look

  • Remove the button down, wear the blazer alone (sexy and low cut), keep on the white pants and add sky high sandal stilettos out on the town for a sexy and sophisticated look

  • Use just the blazer and roll up the sleeves as your go-to summer jacket paired with everything from cut off shorts to sweet sundresses

  • Go super casual a la Crockett and Tubbs and throw the suit over a colorful tank top and cute flip flops

  • Don't forget to buy in summer friendly materials like stretch cotton sateen or linen to keep you cool and comfortable

...The possibilities are endless. Leave it to me to hook you up and show you how to get the most bang for your buck from one suit and steal from John Travolta, Crockett and Tubbs in the process.

Poolside Prep

Welcome back to a new week. Hope you had a great Father's Day weekend. Now the question for the day: Are you set for summer? Everyone knows it's time to pick the perfect swimsuit (or very stylish cover-up) to accompany you to the pool or beach this summer but how much consideration have you put into what's going to hold all your other essentials (i.e. sunscreen, towel, magazine/trashy novel)? I mean, what would you do if I weren't here to bring up these thought provoking questions? Don't worry you can thank me later, for now look at these cute tote bags!

He Said SHE Said: Celebrity Fashion Lines

We have a lot of choices when it comes to celebrity fashion lines. Beyonce is steadily trying to push House of Dereon (love Be, but absolutely hate everything I've seen from this line), Jessica Simpson is raking in the big bucks with her Jessica Simpson line anchored by footwear and Gwen Stefani has made her mark on the fashion world with her successful L.A.M.B. line (the most fashion forward celebrity creation in my opinion). But what I want to know is whatever happened to SHE by Sheree (cue the crickets)? With so much media scrutiny, celebrity fashion is here to stay. When you're in a business where people live just to see what stilettos you're wearing, you gotta stand up tall, pose for the camera, and strut those heels right to bank. Who's up next? My bet is on Rihanna (if you want to be rich for life you have to sell more than just umbrellas).

Speaking of SHE by Sheree
"Who was this wonderful person that was giving a fashion show with no fashions?...How dreadful".

OK, They Got Me

I can't resist infomercials. I often have to restrain myself from picking up the phone and ordering The Instyler (knowing full well it's not going to both straighten and curl my hair at the same time). Hey, the Windsor Pilates videos do actually work (I broke down and ordered those on an early morning like 5 years ago). And who doesn't want to treat their clothing well by steaming instead of ironing for just two easy payments? One hundred dollars and two large steamers later, I rarely use the main steamer (but do have a lot less closet space) but the awkward travel steamer does come in handy. Save yourself the trouble and treat your clothing well for just $40 with the new Rowenta First Class travel iron. You can actually iron and steam your clothing and it's small enough where you would actually take it with you traveling (1.65lbs). Where was this iron when I was reaching for my wallet at 2AM to buy the Tobi Steamer?

Breakfast of Champions

Happy Monday everyone! Every now and then I need a little push to help get my week going. What gives me a winning spirit? Here are a couple of things that just might inspire me.

Nothing kicks me into high gear like an invigorating scent that contains energizing grapefruit and the sweet flavor of mango. This one is in a solid form so you can slip it right into your purse and through airport security with ease. Pacifica solid perfume in Brazilian Mango Grapefruit, $9.

Monday blues and June gloom calls for a cute pick me up that only you have to know about. Hanky Panky thong $18 in Tumeric Yellow and low rise thong $18 in Sumac Purple

Nothing jumpstarts my mood like a hot shoe in a hot color. These are cute in cheery purple and gold (great color combo-wink, wink). Emilio Pucci Strap Wedge, $349.99.

And speaking of champions and a winning spirit... Congratulations to the Los Angeles Lakers (what did you expect I'm from LA)! It looks like at least someone still eats their Wheaties.

Cheap Thrills

Coke vs. Pepsi, McDonald's vs. Burger King, Prince vs. Michael Jackson...the battles rage on. So when it's time to find cute stuff on the cheap which store wins when it's Forever 21 vs. H & M? Both offer a wide array of trendy finds. But which store is really worth your time? Don't worry, I'll settle this.

  • Largest Selection - Forever 21 (This store offers a wide selection of just about every trend imaginable)

  • Best Quality- H & M (For the price, H&M offers durable materials that hold up through washing and wearing-no more wondering how the dress the size of a 4 year old got in your laundry basket)

  • Cheapest Prices - Forever 21 (Both are reasonable but you can actually buy a $3 t-shirt here)
  • Best Fit- H & M (H&M usually has well cut styles that fit the way they look like they should. I find that Forever 21 is cut too small or not well proportioned)
  • Most Cutting Edge Fashion- H & M (You can often find trends straight off the runway looks that rivals high priced designers pieces. H&M also collaborates with designers like Roberto Cavalli and Matthew Williamson to create in-store collections for a limited time)

  • Most Age Appropriate- H & M (Those under 18 this doesn't apply to you. But, if you wore fluorescent suspenders and legwarmers in the 80s [Forever 21 is well stocked with these items] maybe you should sit this one out)

Based on extensive research, my vote's for H & M (although I have a good friend who will fight me to the death on this one). But if you can't decide you don't have to pick one over the other. I completely understand-I've yet to choose when it comes to Purple Rain vs. Thriller.

I Love the 80's - 80s Purple.com

I am obsessed with this website I discovered, http://www.80spurple.com/. Not only does this site have page after page of the cool clothing and accessories (including lingerie & swimwear) with a edgy twist, I couldn't believe how many items were under 100 bucks! Do you like?

How cute is this? An entire outfit for $46!

Daddy's Got Style

...And if he doesn't, I've got the perfect gift in mind for him. Father's Day is soon approaching and instead of procrastinating in my usual style, I thought I'd share a gift idea for the special dads in our lives. Let's face it we may have our style mapped out but for some men you may have to just spell it out for them (or just make sure there's lots of pictures). Nordstrom has a book called Men's Style that may just help lay down some style foundation. Because shouldn't the men in our life be just as hot as we are (Okay our actual dads don't need to be hot, but dressed in clothing from this decade would be nice)?

Men's Style $19.95, Nordstrom.

Friday Love

Once again it's Friday and I thought it would be fun to kick off the weekend with something nostalgic and fun. Hope you enjoy my tribute to multiplatinum selling artists TLC and the fashion trend formally known as Cross Colours.

Check out the girls in my personal favorite Baby, Baby, Baby (I swear this video and A Different World made me want to go to HBCU for college).

Designer Dilemma: Denim Deconstructed

One the most of the moment looks are an old favorite-denim. It's not the season for your well tailored dark denim (although truthfully they're always classic). This season it's all about deconstructed denim. You can reach deep down in your pockets and sport one of the designer denim, Current Elliott. Or make your way to Urban Outfitters to try this trend on the cheap (and there's always the options of your trusty scissors). Either way catch on to this trend before it slips away or it gets too hot outside to contain those sexy legs of yours.

Silence & Noise Ripped Twig Skinny Jeans $68, Urban Outfitters.

BDG Ripped Boyfriend Jean $68, Urban Outfitters. These have to look better on just about everyone but this model.

Levis 631 Skinny Premium Bleached Jeans $68, Urban Outfitters. (even cheaper option-break out the bleach!)

Monday Madness

Happy Monday! I know we're just getting to Summer, but I've seen some of the collections coming up this Fall and I must be mad because I can't stop thinking about getting my hands on a pair of over the knee boots (pretty much thigh high actually). They'll be sprinkled across the runways for Fall and I can't resist. They're so sleek, sexy and catwoman. I just have to find a pair out of the "are you out of your damn mind" price range. Wish me luck!

Thigh High Boots by Roberto Cavalli $2300
(they don't necessarily need to be this high)
Check out the entire Fall '09 Collection here.
